Per-Diem Firefighter/EMT or EMT

Newton Fire / Rescue is currently seeking eligible candidates for the positions of per-diem Firefighter / Emergency Medical Technician or Emergency Medical Technician.  

A per-diem Firefighter/EMT or EMT shall be responsible for the efficient performance of required duties in conformance with the rules, regulations, and policies contained in the manual of department operations. Duties shall consist of but are not necessarily limited to, several general fire and rescue responsibilities necessary to the stability of safety in the community. 

Requirements: 
• Shall hold and maintain a valid driver’s license (CDL Class B with tanker shall be preferred)  
• Must be at least 18 years of age.  
• Shall meet the Certifications of Firefighter Level I or a National Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (Firefighter II or AEMT/Medic shall be preferred). 
• Ability to listen and follow orders in emergencies.  
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the general public. 

Compensation: 
Starting pay scale shall be as follows, EMT only $18.00 per hour, Firefighter/EMT $20.00 per hour  

All candidates must pass a background check, driver’s license check, and a complete firefighter physical before being appointed to the department.

Transfer Station Attendant

The Town of Newton has an immediate opening for a part time Transfer Station Attendant to work Tuesday and Thursday from 12pm-7pm, Saturday from 8am-5pm and Sunday from 9am-4pm. Duties include but are not limited to the acceptance of trash and recyclable material and general overall operations of the facility such as: Assisting the public to recycle disposable materials, enforcing rules and regulations pertaining to the use and operation of the facility, operating equipment, maintenance of building and grounds etc. Must have the ability to deal professionally and effectively with the public and be able to communicate instructions and guidelines. The ability to work outdoors year-round for extended periods of time and to bend and lift objects up to 40 lbs. on a regular basis during a work shift. Must observe work hazards and safety practices related to the operations of the Transfer Station and be able to meet the physical demands of the job. High school diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience required. State of NH Solid Waste Facility Operator Certification or the ability to readily obtain one is required, as is a valid driver’s license. We offer competitive pay commensurate with experience.
