Judith Saum will hold a virtual Zoom presentation discussing the topic of The Health Effects of Climate Change at the Gale Library in Newton on Thursday, May 19 at 7:00 p.m.

A short 30-minute PowerPoint presentation will include information on the health effects of extreme heat, pollen/allergies, extreme weather and vector borne diseases.

Judith is a retired environmental health specialist who spent 22 years working for the County health department in Reno, NV prior to relocating to Rumney, NH in 2018.  She is a member of the newly-formed New Hampshire Healthcare Workers for Climate Action, which is an inclusive, non-partisan coalition of doctors, nurses, behavioral health practitioners, public health and policy experts, hospital workers and students—all dedicated to educating the public about the health impacts of a changing climate.  Judith is also a volunteer with UNH Extension Natural Resource Stewards and recently completed training as a Climate and Health Ambassador.  https://www.nhclimatehealth.org/

Helpers from the Sargent Woods community trimmed some branches from the nearby tree to allow space for the American flag to fly without catching on the tree.  A new American flag was then raised in replacement.  We are very appreciative for their community support!

Families are invited to join us each Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. for children’s stories and songs.  If the weather is pleasant and warm, plans will be for outside attendance.

Weekly crafts bags that correspond with each week’s theme will also be available.  Please call (603) 382-4691 to attend.  Registrations are required at this time due to capacity restrictions.

Craft bags for children will now be available upon placing a reservation request by email, phone or in person due to limited supplies.

Are you interested in starting up a Cribbage Game Night?  If so, please let us know!  Game nights would be held on Wednesday evenings at 6:00 p.m.  Players attended regularly here at the Library for many years, it would be wonderful to resume the games again!  Call us at (603) 382-4691 or email galelibraryreads@comcast.net to place your registration.

The Gale Library offers free admission passes available to the U.S.S. Constitution Museum in Charlestown, MA.  Enjoy an educational day of history!
