Mindfulness Workshop at the Gale Library - Wednesday, June 26 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Emotional Self-Defense: Building Resiliency Through Mindfulness
Wellness

2 hour workshop

In this two hour workshop, you will learn the simple practice of mindfulness which builds the skills of self-awareness, empathy and compassion, the foundation of resilience.  This practice is not about getting rid of our thoughts, anymore than life is about getting rid of all our challenges.  It is about working with our thoughts skillfully, seeing them for what they are and being able to use them to respond to our life with choices that support our happiness and well-being, even under difficult conditions.

The workshop will include sitting practice, guided meditation, and discussion.  No experience necessary.  Everyone is welcome.

Some topics we will address:

Being with what’s difficult without getting swallowed up

Putting things in perspective

See the difference between avoidable and unavoidable stress

Accepting, adapting, and appreciating change
