Newton Recreation Commission

Minutes from April 10, 2017

·         Meeting called to order at 7:00 pm

·         Vanessa Burrill was appointed as a voting member

·         Steve St. Cyr made a motion to approved minutes from last week; Second by Vanessa; passed unanimous

·         Attendance: Bob Faghan, Steve St.Cyr, Vanessa Burrill, Matt Burrill

·         Annie Collier resigned as secretary and commission member

·         Bob made a motion to appoint Vanessa to be a permanent member of the board; second by Steve; passed unanimous

·         Newton landscaper met to discuss expectations; Matt attended as Recreation Commission representative

o   It will be additional cost to the town if there is a softball league in the fall

·         Olde Home Day:

o   Date: Need to pick a date, needs to be a different day than homecoming, avoid Columbus day weekend & the Topsfield fair [Oct 7-8]; Target Sept 30

§  Bob to call Brian Stack to see if it is likely to interfere with Homecoming/SATs

o   Race: we will have it as a second event in the spring

o   Activities: Bands, food vendors, craft vendors, bouncy obstacle course/bungee for the kids other kids activities [check into Taylor rental in Haverhill/Plaistow]; food table hosted by the rec commission

§  Movie night - TBD

§  Fireworks – no fireworks since the cost will be about $4k

o   Budget is $7k

o   Vanessa to create a survey; post on facebook, add to school newsletter & town website

·         Race:

o   Plaistow is June 17/18; is graduation June 10?

o   Target June 24 – confirm next week
