Childhood Cancer Awareness Week

Proclamation: Childhood Cancer Awareness Week

Whereas: The Town of Newton New Hampshire recognizes and honors the children, families, and caregivers affected by childhood cancer; and
Whereas: 43 children per day, and 15,780 kids a re-diagnosed with cancer annually in the United States, and the incidence of childhood cancer continues to increase each year and is the leading cause of death by disease among children under the age of 18; and

Whereas: some progress has been made in treating childhood cancer, by significantly more research and funding is necessary to find a cure, with only four new drugs having been approved by the Food and Drug Administration in the last 20 years; and

Whereas: hundreds of non-profit organizations at the local and national level are helping children with cancer and their families cope through educational, emotional, and financial support; and

Whereas: childhood cancer affects all ethnic groups, social backgrounds and geographic regions; and

Whereas: The Town of Newton NH recognizes the severity of childhood cancer and we honor all those impacted by childhood cancer and recognize all the still needs to be done in finding a cure;

For these reasons and many more, the Town of Newton NH Board of Selectmen recognizes September 25 through October 1, 2022, as Childhood Cancer Awareness Week.

In witness whereof, we the Board of Selectmen have hereunto set our hands and caused the Seal of the Town of Newton to be affixed this 20th day of September of the year or our Lord 2022.
