Thank you to our wonderful Friends of the Gale Library!

This extraordinary group has worked hard fundraising all year and has provided the funds to replace the carpeting on the first floor of the Library.  In addition, last year they very generously provided the funds to replace the carpeting on the second floor.  The interior of the building has a new fresh look that brightens the area.  The support of the Friends is greatly appreciated for these and the many other additional building maintenance projects, passes, etc.  Thank you so much!  Their next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, September 12 at 1:00 p.m.  Guests are also welcome to attend meetings to learn more or become a member!

Kevin Gardner: Discovering New England Stone Walls

Wednesday, August 2 at 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.

Kevin’s informal talk covers a few of the main topics of his book about New England stone walls, The Granite Kiss (Countryman Press), touching on history, technique, stylistic development, and aesthetics.  He explains how and why New England came to acquire its thousands of miles of stone walls, the ways in which they and other dry stone structures were built, how their styles emerged and changed over time and their significance to the famous New England landscape.  Other topics may include: differences in approach between historical and contemporary wall-builders, a discussion of restoration tips and techniques, and information about design, acquisition of materials, preservation, and analysis. There is always a generous question-and-answer period, during which listeners are encouraged to bring up specific problems or projects on their own properties.

Resume Writing and Job Interview Interactive Workshop by local author, Artie Lynnworth

Wednesday, August 9 at 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.

This 1.5-hour workshop will include a question and answer session and is for those who want to better prepare for job interviews and improve their resume.

Lynnworth explained that he once coached an individual who had been taking interviews for over a year without one job offer, and after his brief workshop, the individual got a job the next week.  Lynnworth clarified that “The person’s experience did not change in a week. What changed was how he presented his skills to the interviewer in a concise, powerful and effective manner.  This is what I teach and what is covered in my book.” Lynnworth suggested that those wondering whether this workshop will be helpful to them should read the customer feedback comments on Amazon’s site for his books. Lynnworth added, “I’ve had one person who used the system I teach get an interview and job offer within 48 hours from submitting her revised resume.”

These programs are free and open to the public.  Please contact us at 382-4691 for additional information and registration.
